Admire mysterious underground lakes, chapels, dozens of chambers, labyrinth of corridors, statues and sculptures – all carved out of the rock salt by the miners in past 600 years. On the way back visit also a former Oscar Schindler’s Factory with the impressive ‘Krakow under Nazi Occupation’ exhibition.
The Wieliczka Salt Mine was inscribed onto the First UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage List in 1978. It reaches a depth of 327 meters and the mine passage is almost 300 km long! The Salt Mine continuously produced kitchen salt from the 13th century until 1996, being one of the world’s oldest operating salt mines. Every year it is visited by over one million tourists, being undoubtedly one of the most frequently visited sites in Poland. There are no appropriate words to express the mystery and beauty of the Wieliczka Salt Mine… you just must see it!
It is a private tour with a door-to-door return transfer and a guided tour in the mine included in the total price. Our English speaking driver will take a very good care of you for all the time during the tour. He will pick you up directly from your hotel and take you to the mine (only about 30 minutes drive from Kraków). When you reach the mine, our driver will accompany you until you meet you local English speaking guide and join your tour. Visiting the mine always takes place under the supervision of the guide, there is no possibility to visit the site on your own. Visiting usually lasts approximately 2.5 hours and includes about 2.5 km walk down the comfortable and about 2 metres wide corridors and paths. Three levels are made available for visitors to see. There are 20 chambers and about 800 steps to climb. Tourists enter the mine descending 380 steps to the first level (64 m underground) and return to the surface by an elevator from the third level (135 m). Temperature in the mine is between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius, all year round.

The second item of that half day tour is visiting of the former Oscar Schindler’s Factory. The museum established in the original factory’s administrative building is devoted to the history of WW II in Krakow. The unforgettable and touching multimedia exhibition entitled ‘Krakow under Nazi Occupation 1939-1945’ presents the wartime history in a very modern and accessible manner. According to thousands of visitors this museum – opened in 2010 – is definitely one of the best ones they have ever seen. Although you will not find too much information about the Oscar Schindler’s Enamel Factory from its working days, this is one of the most interesting and most often visited sites in Poland.

Alternatively, if you wish, you can visit the Factory with our English speaking licensed guide. The great advantage of this option is the fact that our experienced and informative guide will show you not only the Schindler’s Museum itself but the Old Jewish District and the site of the former Jewish Ghetto from WW II as well.
Our driver and guide will pick you up from your hotel and during about 45 minutes drive on the way to the Schindlers Museum you will see all the sites mentioned above. Our guide will give you an excellent introduction to the rest of this ‘WW II Tour’ providing the perfect background information. You will be introduced to that very complicated, tragic and important part of the history. The guide will give you professional information and answer your questions. This will let you learn definitely more about WW II as well as history of Poles and Jews under German Nazi occupation.
